This month we have another post from the immigration section of our from a member asking about traveling internationally while on an F1 visa:

"Hello all,
I am a graduate student in the US. Unfortunately because of some agreements with my country, my F1 Visa is only valid for 6 months. Therefore, it has already expired. I am planning to go to Paris on a tourist Visa for the winter break and renew my F1 Visa there. Is that going to be a problem?
My I20 is valid till 2018.

Thank you very much for your help.
Best"
